Trade Categories

Trade categories help you create classifications for your trades. Categorizing your trades allows you to analyze your data and identify which types of trades yield the best results for you.

Trade Categories Overview

To view an overview of all existing trade categories, navigate to the Settings section in the side menu. The first page displayed will be the Trade Categories overview. If you are on another page within the Settings section, you can simply press the Trade Categories tab in the settings tab bar, located at the top.

On the Trade Categories page, you can view all existing trade categories. Additional categories can be added, and existing trade categories can be renamed or removed.

Add a New Trade Category

To add a new trade category, navigate to the Trade Categories overview page and press the "Add Trade Category" button. This will open a form where you can enter a name for the new category.

After filling in the name and pressing the "Add Trade Category" button, the new category will be saved. It will then be available for categorizing your trades and will appear as an option when adding new trades.

Rename a Trade Category

To correct a typo or rename a trade category, first navigate to the Trade Categories overview page.

Find the specific trade category you want to rename in the list. Press the "Rename" button next to that trade category.

A form will open, allowing you to enter the new name for the trade category.

Remove a Trade Category

To remove an existing trade category, navigate to the Trade Categories overview page.

Locate the specific trade category you wish to remove in the list and press the "Remove" button next to it.

After confirming the action, the trade category will be deleted.

The removal of a trade category is irreversible and will also remove the category from your dashboards and reports. Once removed, the category will no longer be associated with your existing trades, meaning those trades will not be visualized under the separate category.

Which Trade Categories Should I Pick?

TradeMemoir does not prescribe how you should categorize your trades, as this depends on various factors. For example, are you categorizing based on the types of trades, or would you prefer to categorize based on the types of stocks?

Here are some example categories to help you get started:

Categories based on the type of trade:

  • Scalp
  • Day trade
  • Swing trade

Categories based on the type of stock:

  • ETF
  • Stock
  • Bond
  • Fiat
